Humming Blood
Sometimes, there are truths about ourselves that we do not see immediately. There are destinies that still seem blurry and sounds that are nothing more than a murmur to the ear. However, it is within this spark where we will be discovering and understanding the once hidden talent that lurked within one’s body and soul: Rhema Socika; or as we like to call her: iindirhe.
iindirhe is a South African born artist with Zambian decent that dances around the corners of Gauteng with her musical talent. It was from a very young age when Rhema began her journey into the musical scene. From already receiving solos at nine years old to soon conducting choirs at seventeen, it is clear that music was not a shy talent of hers. As everyone else around her noticed her talent, she stayed oblivious to the music notes that danced within her body.
From travelling around the province from a very young age, Rhema has also experienced far too many aspects of life to count - both good, and bad. From growing up in Randburg, living in Zambia for a year and then later moving to Pretoria, she has experienced and acknowledged life in many shapes and forms. However, it was only until she moved to Pretoria in 2015 did her life and her journey in becoming an artist truly commence.
From juggling work, her mother being diagnosed with cancer and her direct passion for writing poetry - Rhema had a lot on her plate. Yet, this madness was also the reason why she was slowly being recognised by other writers, artists and producers for her great talent and passion in regards to her writing. With her loud heartbeat and intriguing mindset, iindirhe has the power to write her poems not just with ink, but with her blood.
It was here when the year of 2015 took its ripple effects into 2016. Not only was this the year of her mother’s passing, but also the year at which she began making huge decisions for herself artistically and spiritually. Slowly stepping into the next sphere of her life, she moved from Pretoria to Soweto – where she began living with her best friend – whom she also decided to create a blog with.
However, as our artist began understanding the beat of her own heart more, she began to shed skin. iindirhe soon found out the art form of blogging was not aligning with her and was not the melody that hummed in her blood. This was due to iindirhe being more poetically advanced than anything else. Her skill with pen and paper has always been partnered with her ever so growing mind and whirlpool of emotions. As her skin continued to shed, her skill and talent in regards to poetry only grew. With poetry being the root to the genre that we all know as rap, she soon stepped up her game and began her journey as a rapper and singer. This was how iindirhe began truly listening to the melody that danced in her soul.
This, was also how our musical prodigy kept on luring in more fellow artists and producers with her unique sound-wave. As smiles grew broader because of her pitch, this was how iindirhe truly stepped into the musical industry as she joined her first record label and began truly performing her art to the people. However, with the dream of being an artist becoming more and more true for our virtuoso, she jumped into the music industry wide-eyed and excited for her future. The more she was exposed to this hustle, the more she realised her fight was tougher than she had expected. From being objectified, dropped from her first label and being criticised by her producer, iindirhe grew wiser. It took negative experiences in order for our marvel to gain positive and insightful growth – not only from the world around her, but within her.
“It breaks my heart, but I think it was something I had to learn from” She said at our interview. “When you have a passion for something, you gotta protect it at all costs.”
As our artist grew musically and spiritually, she was able to find and understand certain parts of herself more. It was through that journey that iindirhe discovered how her spirituality and musical talents were interlinked. This, was how she earned her nickname: The Vibegoddess. iindirhe states that whenever she creates music, it’s a vibe as well as the everlasting truth that she vibrates highly. Therefore, our prodigy wishes to spread her positive energy with the people through her music.
“I have enough power to touch people’s hearts.” Our marvel stated. “I am a magical being.”
Her growth did not only occur internally, but externally as she was signed to a new record label that worked with her to create her now respected first EP, The Glitter EP – where she made six incredible tracks all done with no features. Once again, iindirhe experienced the butterfly effects of her decisions and mindset. Ever since she channelled herself and her art, iindirhe has made it onto many song features, performances and interviews with people within the music industry. Performances such at events such as Woke Arts, Meet the Creatives, We Are One Music Festival and New Melody have earned her an official stamp within the market and has put our virtuoso on demand.
“This is my happy place. This is what I wanna do. This what I wanna spread. This is what I want people to understand. This, is how I make sense of the world.”
As iindirhe continues her journey into the music world, we also wish for the melody that hums in her blood to only get louder and stronger as she dances this path we call life. May her humming turn into song. Then her song into a performance. Who knows, maybe it will grow so loud that even we, the public can sense it off her.
