What does a Flower get up to with a little bit of Southon Comfort? Listen to music of course!
So, it was a chilly Sunday night (April 15th) when we decided that after some prayer, we needed music to start our week. Lucky enough were we to breathe the cool looming winter air of Braamfontein – air filled with spunky jazz music heard within 100m of The Orbit Jazz Club. That in itself was an experience never forgotten.
Walking into the space was an experience in itself. Uncertainty to the mysteries of the place; anticipation to match. We were ecstatic…
The Orbit's Window Sessions lived up to our expectations. Never mind the mind blowing meal, which unfortunately due to our status as unemployed students meant we could only order a basket of chips, the atmosphere was inviting and exhilarating. The music kept our heads either bopping or swaying – it didn’t matter what hit us, because we honestly didn’t care. It was that amazing!
Amazing and surprising to say the least. The Window Sessions' open mic list kept us guessing and contemplating in anticipation of what would find our ears next. Soulful duets, rappers, guitarists, lone wolf musicians – that night had it all. Fam, IT WAS LIT!
We would have named our favourite performances of the night, but at moments like that one can never remember just one when all performances stood out. Still, for that, the calibre of performers needs to be raised, yet we cannot help but think that nothing will ever match up to our initial experience of The Orbit.
Signing off on our experience, it is only apt to proclaim that an experience at The Orbit Jazz Club stands as testament to South Africa’s very own version of music coming to life in the night time
